What?

The Minnie Bairstow Scholarship helps Aboriginal students with the cost of accommodation while at university.

How long?

Get your rent paid for the rest of your course.

H

How much?

The scholarship pays up to $10,000 per year towards accommodation costs.

WHO IS THE SCHOLARSHIP FOR?

The scholarship is generally for tertiary students who:

  • Are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander

  • In financial need

  • Study and live in Perth, Western Australia while studying

  • Receive Abstudy

  • Are enrolled as a full-time or near full-time, internal (face-to-face) student in a university course for at least Semester 1 of the year in which they apply.     Note: not all university courses are covered by the scholarship - see FAQs for details.

  • Pay rent/fees for accommodation in one of the following:

    • rented accommodation

    • on-campus student housing

    • a university college or student hostel

    • an approved supported accommodation program (such as Dandjoo Darbalung or IYMP)

ABOUT THE APPLICATION FORM

Checking you are eligible to apply
  • Part 1 of the online application form is an Eligibility Check will help you to know if you fit the criteria for this scholarship - we don't want you to waste time on this application if you are not eligible.

  • If you are eligible, you will be able to continue onto the main part of the application form.

Documents and information you may need
  • Current enrolment advice

  • Documents demonstrating previous academic achievements eg Year 12 reports, WACE certificates, previous semesters' results advice, any other study started or completed since leaving school.

  • Accommodation contract or tenancy agreement

  • Abstudy assessment letter

  • Pay slips and records of any other income to calculate your estimated income for this year. If you are married or in a marriage-like relationship, you will also need your spouse or partner's income details.

  • Your character referees' preferred contact details (make sure they are happy for us to contact them)

Saving and returning to the form

You can save and return to the form at any time:

  • Click the 'Save' button at the bottom right hand corner of each page.

  • A message will appear with a link that you can save and use to return to the online form.

  • Alternatively, you can type in your email address and the link will be sent to you in an email.

  • The link will expire in 28 days (or on the closing date Friday 17 February 2023, if this is earlier). You can request a new link if it expires before the closing date.

  • Make sure you save regularly to avoid losing your work.

Submitting the form
  • Hit the 'Submit' button on the last page of the online form.

  • You won't be allowed to submit unless you have answered all the 'required' questions (indicated with an asterix*).

  • Submit the form by the end of the day on Friday 17 February 2023.

  • You will receive a submission confirmation by email after you submit your application form.

  • Use the link in your submission confirmation email to return to your submitted application form to update it, right up until the closing time.

  • Make sure the confirmation email is kept safe - it contains your personal information and allows access back into your application, so you don't want other people accessing it

  • You will be asked to review your application just prior to the closing date to ensure that all details are still up-to-date and accurate.
