PAYING THE RENT WHILE YOU STUDY

Thinking of studying at university in Western Australia?
Or already a student? Not sure how you’ll pay the rent while you study?

The Minnie Bairstow Scholarship helps Aboriginal students with the cost of accommodation while at university.

Get your rent paid for the rest of your course.

The scholarship pays up to $10,000 per year towards accommodation costs.

WHO IS THE SCHOLARSHIP FOR?

The scholarship is generally for tertiary students who:

  • Are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander

  • Study and live in Perth, Western Australia while studying

  • Receive Abstudy

  • Are enrolled as a full-time or near full-time, internal (face-to-face) student in a university course for at least Semester 1 of the year in which they apply.     Note: not all university courses are covered by the scholarship - see FAQs for details.

  • Pay rent/fees for accommodation in one of the following:

    • rented accommodation

    • on-campus student housing

    • a university college or student hostel

    • an approved supported accommodation program (such as Dandjoo Darbalung or IYMP)
